Halloween: Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle

What It Is

Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle is a projection-mapping show that runs on select nights in the fall at Hogsmeade. The Hogwarts castle exterior becomes the canvas for an elaborate light show featuring Death Eaters, Dementors, and Lord Voldemort, all set to John Williams' Harry Potter score.

The show lasts approximately 8-9 minutes and runs multiple times per evening. You do not need to purchase a separate ticket, it is included with any Islands of Adventure admission on the select evenings it runs. • Position yourself in the center of Hogsmeade Village with Hogwarts directly in front of you for the full projection spread; the sides lose significant detail

• The Death Eater street characters appear in Hogsmeade Village in the hour before and after the show on event nights, when they interact with guests and are actively frightening in a theatrical way

Halloween Horror Nights (HHN)

Halloween Horror Nights primarily operates at Universal Studios Florida, not Islands of Adventure. This is a common source of confusion for guests buying tickets.

For 2026, HHN runs August 28 through November 1, 2026, for 48 select nights. The 2026 event at Universal Studios Florida is themed around the "Infernal Carnival of Nightmares" with 10 haunted houses, multiple scare zones, and live entertainment. Separately, some outlets have speculated that HHN programming could expand to Universal Epic Universe for 2026, though Universal has not made any official announcements.

Tickets and Pricing

HHN requires a separate ticket from your regular park admission. Tickets start around $88 for off-peak select-night dates and can climb to around $114-$130 for peak dates in October. Combination packages that bundle day park admission with HHN night admission are available. Multi-night add-ons provide better per-night value.

Islands of Adventure During HHN Nights

Islands of Adventure operates on its standard hours on HHN nights, which the haunted houses and scare zones are in Universal Studios Florida. Grinchmas (Seuss Landing)

The Grinchmas Who-liday Spectacular is a live stage show in Seuss Landing retelling the classic Grinch story set to Mannheim Steamroller music. It runs multiple times daily (typically every hour during park open) and seats are first-come, first-served, no Express Pass applies. Arrive 20-25 minutes early to secure a decent view, especially with children.

Seuss Landing receives holiday theming throughout the season, including the Who-ville Tree Lot, which a collection of whimsical character-themed trees introduced in 2025, and festive lighting.

Crowd Impact: What Seasonal Events Do to Wait Times

• Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida draw massive crowds but Islands of Adventure is largely unaffected after HHN begins at USF (usually 6-7 PM). If you visit Islands of Adventure in the afternoon and then transition to HHN at USF, you get the best of both.
• Grinchmas period (late November-January 4) is one of the busiest overall periods in the year. Expect elevated wait times across all headliners. The week between Christmas and New Year's is the single highest-demand week of the year, waits for Hagrid's can reach 150+ minutes.
